We are known for being a student-centered and student-guided team, supported by a broad network that includes a registered 501(c)(3) booster organization, active alumni involvement, and community sponsors. Our competition strengths are well-rounded, everything from robot design, fabrication, and overall quality, to programming, driving, and gameplay strategy. We take pride in our accomplishments, having earned the Chairman’s Award in 2021, consistently ranking among the top 5 Indiana teams since 2022, and attending the FIRST Championship in 2023 and 2024. Starting in 2022, we became one of the select few teams worldwide that create their own custom PCBs, furthering our commitment to innovation and excellence as we aim for continued success.
Purdue FIRST Programs (PFP), a student organization located at Purdue University’s main campus in West Lafayette, Indiana has been a constant presence since the team’s founding in 2011, as a source of funding and mentors. Team 4272 regularly attends several PFP events, including the FIRST Forum seminar day, Boiler Bot Battle off-season event, and FRC Open House for the four PFP-supported teams in Greater Lafayette (4272, 461, 1646, and 1747).

Our History
FIRST Robotics Team 4272 was founded in November of 2011 at McCutcheon High School in Lafayette, Indiana. The founders of the team analyzed the programs available to students in the community and found that McCutcheon High School lacked adequate resources and programs to teach students about robotics and advanced engineering skills. Following this evaluation, Team 4272 was founded as a partnership between McCutcheon High School and Purdue FIRST Programs.
The initial team had eight mentors who recruited 12 McCutcheon High School students to join the team. Since the initial year, the team has steadily increased to its current size.
The team is located in Lafayette, Indiana in McCutcheon High School which is part of the Tippecanoe School Corporation.
